Recently, the FBI has issued a public service announcement warning businesses about the rising number of phishing or business email compromises. Phishing is not a new concept. However, these scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated – so much so that since January 2015, the total losses due to business email compromises have skyrocketed to $3.1billion. This reflects a 1,300% increase in reported losses.
We cannot emphasise the importance of IT documentation. It’s more than just counting the number of workstations and printers etc.; a proper and thorough IT documentation records information on the various software and applications in each identified workstation (we give workstations weird names like MOMO or TOTO because we have a sense of humour).
Recently, password management security company, SplashData, has released its annual Worst Passwords List for 2015. You would think that internet users are getting a bit more sophisticated over time and thus, moving away from insecure passwords like ‘123456’ or ‘password’.
