7 photo editing apps you should check out

Not all of us have the aptitude to produce beautiful photographs like a professional, or even semi-professional, photographer. There are also some photographs that cannot be saved with just an Instagram filter. Luckily, there are a few apps that can help turn that bleak, boring photograph into something more aesthetically pleasing.

1) VSCO Cam (Free, available on iOS, beta testing on Android)

Vintage effects seem to be the latest photography fad, and it looks like that fad is not going to fade away anytime soon. Like Instagram, VSCO Cam offers a range of vintage filters but allows users to have more control over the settings, such as the exposure and contrast.

2) Snapseed (Free)

If you think that using different apps for different effects is too cumbersome, then Snapseed is the one app to rule them all. This app is pretty nifty in the sense that it features a wide variety of effects from photo filters to light leaks to textures.

3) LINE Camera (Free)

LINE Camera is developed by Naver Japan, a company that hails from the land of cute sticker photos. So it should be of no surprise that this app allows users to add adorable stamps and cartoon illustrations to their photos. They are a great addition to photos of babies or pets, but if cute stamps are not your thing, they have range of beautiful filters that are worth a look as well.

4) Facetune ($2.99 for iPhone, $3.99 for iPad, available on iOS only)

If you are gunning for that flawless selfie, just download Facetune. It can help to correct spots and blemishes, whiten your teeth, hide your eyebags and so much more!

5) Camera360 (Free)

The filters alone are a good enough reason to download Camera360. It also gives you a huge range of functions to play with, plus it does not contain any advertisements nor does it promote paid content. In our books, any app that does not annoy you to death with pop-up promotions is a good app.

6) Frametastic (Free, available on iOS only)

A picture says a thousand words, but sometimes you need more than just one picture to tell a story. Frametastic is a great tool for putting multiple images together in a collage, and offers a range of photo filters while at it.

7) Afterlight ($0.99, available on iOS only)

A light leak effect can do wonders for not-so-great photographs and make a mundane photograph look more exciting. In Afterlight, you can adjust the placement, colour and strength of the light leak, as well as add in textures to give your photographs a more vintage feel.
